{ HOMESCHOOL ROOM SET-UP II // STEPS I TAKE TO PLAN FOR OUR HOMESCHOOL SPACES...
last time i mentioned how important decluttering is to our homeschool room set-up process. and, while every bit of what i’ve written of decluttering and organizing rings true, i should have mentioned that the vision/plan always comes first!
before the plan looks like ‘a plan’ at all, it was first a plan in my heart. a plan full of hopes, dreams and desires of my heart. a plan that is made of floating sentiments living rent-free in my mind. it’s all the stuff that I want to come of our years adventures. the stuff that is hardly tangible and nearly impossible to grab in the palm of my hands.
this is why I didn’t make mention of this part of the process as ‘first’ but it most certainly is.
it’s the stuff that I make room for when I clear out almost e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g from our space and sit in the middle of the floor to breath life into and turn into a more tangible plan.
so, these are the simple steps that i walk through to build a plan from the song of our hearts:
clear it out to make it plain //
i talked about this in the first post in our homeschool room set-up but it certainly bears repeating. starting with bare walls, clear floor, clean tables and sometimes even none at all, helps to make room to build on the strength of your foundation, so I do just that.
these photos are from last years clean out fun but just know that this year’s looked just the same. a little extra insight into our homeschool + life, i follow the same exact steps when it comes to making our next move in life, in learning and even how we love.
write it down + get back to work //
taking the time to jot it all down, without overthinking things. think of all of the ways you’ll use the space. for morning meetings, family story time, movie nights, watch parties, indoor campouts etc. imagining them reaching for books and grabbing the microscope to investigate the tiny beetle they found in the backyard. where will they find their sketchbook to sit by the window and sketch+paint the clouds? will they hide their lego creations under the table to work on another day? will they visit their art wall to admire last weeks collage they finally finished?
imagine…
envision and write it all down!
then get back to work and start making room in tiny corners, small nooks and even the high places. get to work taking it one step at a time to make all that you imagined a possibility that you can work toward.
start simple + leave room to grow //
not all of your imaginations will come to life at once. the best thing i’ve ever learned to do is to start simple and leave room to grow. each day will make way for another part of the plan. each week will open and close another door. each month and then each year until it becomes a beautiful journey of exploration and discovery….
it truly is magical when you choose to see it that way!!!
as for me and my house…. our start small always begins with the bookshelf!
funny enough, last year I ended up moving the bookshelf to the opposite wall and this year it’s found itself back where it was always meant be… center stage, lol. be sure to visit the channel to check out our homeschool room set-up 2021-22 and the plans that we’ve set for the newest stage in our journey.
stop by and see how the little things and ways we use what’s in our homeschool room has changed and evolved…
ill leave last years video below where we chat about the sentiments before they became ‘the plan’. would love to know how you ‘plan’ your spaces?
with all the love,
syreena
